About Me
I am a PhD Researcher at The University of Brighton. I am an interdisciplinary researcher in Media, Art, Psychology, Sociology and Philosophy.
My areas of interest are:
Nostalgia, Digital Folklore, Horror, Queer Theory, Semiotics, Aesthetics and Ontology, in particular, the concept of Stimmung.
I am also a writer and filmmaker. In my professional writing and creative career, I have worked with companies such as Google, Endemol, and H Samuel.
My doctoral research delves into the influence of liminal space imagery on individuals' emotions. Liminal spaces, characterised by images of abandoned or in-between places, have gained immense popularity online, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This intriguing genre of imagery has spurred discussions and communities across platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and TikTok. To unravel the effects of these images on people's emotions, I employed photo-elicitation interviews (PEIs), a creative method often used to explore experiences. While PEIs are widely accepted in qualitative research, the practical use of photographs in this context remains underexplored. By employing PEIs, I aimed to analyse the impact of existing liminal space photographs on individuals' emotions. The collected data from the interviews underwent coding and thematic analysis to reveal participants' responses to the imagery. Through this study, I shed light on incorporating photographs in qualitative research. Furthermore, my research provides academic evidence of the effects of engaging with images of liminal space on emotions. This exploration contributes to the academic understanding of the topic and offers insights that can be applied to various practices.
